     The Jackson-Madison County Library welcomes you as a patron.  You are invited to make full use of the many types of library materials and services available to the public. The following  procedures have been established for the benefit of all patrons. 

Library Cards

    Free patron cards are available to all citizens of Madison County.  Those who own property or go to school full time in Madison County are also eligible for free cards.  All others must pay an annual $25.00 non-resident fee.

 One free card will be issued.  Replacement cards are available for a charge of $1.00.

 Adults must apply in person at the Circulation Desk with a photo ID and proof of current address.

 Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who has the above information. 

 

Book Requests

bulletIf a book in the library catalog is not currently available, requests that it be put on hold for you at the Circulation Desk.  You will be notified by phone or e-mail when the book has arrived.
bulletBooks not in our catalog may be requested by filling out a form at the circulation desk.  Requests for books older than 6 months may be filled through Interlibrary Loan.  All fines and over due materials must be cleared before a book will be ordered from another library.  Library card required. 
bulletBooks may be requested on-line by accessing the library website and going to the on-line catalog.  You must have a pin number in order to use this service.  To request a pin number, ask at the Circulation Desk.   Requests will be processed for only the first five books requested. 

 

 Loan periods and limits:

All adult patrons are required to present either their library card or a photo ID to check out materials photo ID to check out materials.  Children must have their card or an adult with photo ID to check out materials.

Audio Books       2 weeks, limit 5
Books, Adult Fiction    2 weeks, no limit
Books, Adult Non-Fiction 2 weeks, limit 5 per subject
CD’s      2 weeks, limit 5
Videos and DVD’s 1 week, limit 4
Children’s Fiction  2 weeks, limit 25
Children’s Non-Fiction  2 weeks, limit 25, 5 per subject

                                

 Renewals                    

All items may be renewed if not on hold for other patrons.  Items may

be renewed by phone, on-line, or at the circulation desk for up to two

or more loan periods.

 

Fines for Overdue Items:

Books, CD’s, Audio Books  10 cents per day, $4.00 max.
Videos and  DVD’s 50 cents per day, $10.00 max.
Equipment (Audiovisual)   $5.00 per day, $50.00 max.

                

Lost or Damaged Items

bulletLost items charges are the cost of the item plus a $2.00
handling fee.
bulletDamaged items will be assessed on a case by case basis. 
bulletPlease bring the damaged item to the library.
bulletVideos and DVD’s returned without the proper case will be charged the full price of the item.

 

Address Changes

Please notify the library of changes in your address and telephone number. 

 

Book Drops

 

The Library, outside the East College Street entrance.

Madison South Shopping Center, near Save-a-Lot grocery.

Old Hickory Mall, near the outdoor postal center (J.C. Penney).

Library North, 3189 N. Highland

 

We prefer that CD’s, videos and audio books be brought to the library to prevent damage from heat, cold, or heavy books being dropped on them.  If you must use the book drop, please bag your audiovisual items.

 

Public Computer Center

Public Internet access and word processing are available through a self-service computer lab with a Jackson-Madison County Library Card and PIN number.  A visitor’s pass is available for non-residents with identification proving non-residency.  Patrons may utilize two sessions, each with a one hour time limit, daily.  Please review both the Internet Use Policy and the Computer Etiquette Guidelines.

 

There is no age limit for the use of these computers, but children will need to have a parent with them to obtain a library card and set up their PIN number.  If parents wish for their children to not have computer access, see the Circulation Desk so we can remove the PIN number.

 

 Printing services are available.  Black and white printouts are fifteen cents per page and color printouts are thirty cents per page. 

 

Other Departments and Services:

Children’s Library—Tuesday and Friday (10:30 a.m.) story times, summer reading program, and special programs for children through grade 6.

Young Adult Library—grades 7 through 12, summer reading program.

Reference—research assistance, microfilm of the Jackson Sun, specialized reference tools in book and electronic form.

Tennessee Room—historical and genealogical research.

Library Board Room—for small meetings.

Library Program Center—for educational, cultural and civic programs by non-profit groups.  Call for scheduling.
